Shabbat Eikev (Deut. 7:12 – 11:25)

In this weeks portion, one of the comments that is made about the 40 years’ travel is how the cloths of the Israelites never wore out. Kind of like friendship. Or Shabbat. “Dark Side of the Moon”, “The Breakfast Club” and “Star Wars” (the first one. No not episode 1. The *real* first one, that I saw when I was 10) might also fall into that category, but I’m... read more

Israel Diary: T'shuvah – Repentence or Return?

Words that have kept with us (and some say... read more

Shabbat Devarim (Devarim 1:1 – 3:22)

This week we dive into Deuteronomy. Moses begins explaining to the Children of the slave generation just how they got there, and where they are going, and why. Notable (at least for me, this year) is the following from the very beginning of the parsha: 1:10 The Lord your God has multiplied you until you are today as numerous as the stars in the sky. — 11 May the Lord, the God of your fathers, increase... read more

Shabbat Matot-Masei (Numbers 30:2 – 36:13)

It’s the end of the book of Numbers, . Rather than focus on the specifics of this portion, we thought we would try to recap the entire experience of Bamidbar in this weeks’ meal. So , limited by the category of food and your bountiful creativity, please bring a dish based on (or as it might be brought by) the character which you have also been assigned. As with all assignments, please be... read more
